GreySpark // UBS // Risk Data Dashboard
I was brought into this project mid-way as the client was not happy with the UX / UI, as no designer had been involved up until this point. The discovery phase involved gathering all the documentation from our team within UBS in order to understand the requirements and scope of the project. I constructed the dashboard in Qlikview, which meant I was able to apply designs in realtime to the UI with a test backend environment attached.
After gathering documentation and requirements, I interviewed one of the end-users a few times before starting to provide recommended UX and UI actions going forward.
User Workflows
This developer-design version of the dashboard at this point to had too many tabs for user friendly navigation, none of branding was applied and in general there was information overload.
The information architecture needed refining.
A lot of crucial items were below the fold and not entirely conducive to a ‘dashboard’ and the needs outlined in the persona.
Recommended Actions
The 20 tabs were divided in to 4 categories, the filter was moved to free up space and everything was kept above the fold. For the UI, branding was added, typographic principles were applied and navigation was simplified and restructured.
I was able to apply this all directy within Qlikview and worked iteratively with the client and our team within UBS.
Filtering was made one click away and moved to a overlay, freeing up a lot of screen real estate. That said, even when the overlay was closed, applied filter options were shown at the top right of the screen.
Feedback
Client feedback was very positive. They recommended standardising the design within UBS. GreySpark had me create a generic version post-project in order to sell to other clients.
